Duties
Incumbent is one of eight visa assistants in the NIV unit in Port-au-Prince and directs all aspects of nonimmigrant visa (NIV) processing from start to finish, and is acting LE Staff NIV unit supervisor as required in that employee’s absence.  Incumbent has training and oversight responsibilities for new, temporary, and seasonal employees, and offers advice and guidance to EFM employees and up to six consular officers on complex cases and procedures.  Port-au-Prince is a medium-volume post with up to 131,000 NIV applicants per year, and has experienced double-digit increases in demand in recent years.  The employee is fully cross-trained to function in any role in the unit as required by visa demand and scheduling, and also rotates from time to time to cross train in different units in the section.  Incumbent has expert and authoritative knowledge of 9 FAM 400.

Qualifications and Evaluations
Requirements:
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of three (3) years of consular experience or similar work involving the application of relatively complex regulatory or legal materials.

Education Requirements:
At least two years of full-time college- or university-level studies

Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), and Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), working at the U.S. Mission in Port-au-Prince may receive a compensation package that may include health, separation, and other benefits.

For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.

The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the Human Resources Office.
